The significance of the dog

The book examines the effects that dog-assisted therapy can have on children and the advantages and disadvantages that can arise in relation to the therapy and for the therapist. Animal-assisted therapy is a very valuable therapeutic option, but one that is still relatively underused. More evidence-based studies should be conducted so that this therapy is recognised by health insurance companies and the costs are covered, enabling more patients to benefit from the therapy in the future.

Rahel Piontek was born on 26 August 1994 in Buxtehude, where she studied physiotherapy in 2012. Even as a child, she was fascinated by animals, and this passion, shaped by her first dog, led her to incorporate the special effect of animals into her bachelor's thesis in 2016.
