The strength of an integrated local development intervention

The lessons presented in this book are based on the experience of a specific project for the stabilization and development of a local area affected by conflict and inadequate provision of social and economic services. The project is called "Integrated Water Resource Management - IWRM/Maji Ya Amani" and was implemented in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the Luberizi Group, in the Uvira Territory of South Kivu Province, by a consortium of three international NGOs from 2017 to 2021. The lessons presented on the basis of the project evaluation missions carried out by the author cover four main dimensions of project management: programmatic implementation in relation to the specific objectives pursued, contextual insertion and consideration of important cross-cutting aspects of the project, management of organizational relations and relations with stakeholders, and finally internal project management. The result is good practices that can inspire both researchers and practitioners in the management of stabilization and rural development projects in Africa.
