''The Synthetic Kingdom'' is a theoretical, but non-the less scientifically supported, study of a futuristic realm, where new subcultures are emerging due to a vital and aggressive progress in technological developments. The book is an investigation of the potential of synthetic biology seen through the scope of a textile designer. It will be an inspiring read for anyone, from designers and artists to scientists and sci-fi nerds (like myself). Lærke stops us thinking practically about textiles in favour of viewing them as conceptual expressions. This also has the subtle effect, of making one think about how her advancements and innovations can be applied to perhaps the fashion industry.
