The Tale of Two Literacy Coaches

Teachers have adopted a new set of hurdles to clear with the implementation of Common Core State Standards. Literacy coaching offers promise to supporting teachers in their efforts to improve the literacy lives of students. The Tale of Two Literacy Coaches takes us on the journey of the day to day practices of two successful middle school literacy coaches. The book begins by providing background for the research, purpose and significance of the study, followed by a review of literature in the field of literacy coaching, teacher efficacy and professional development. Next, the book illustrates the methods used to collect data. The book concludes with results of the study, a discussion of major findings, and recommendations for literacy coaches, principals, district leaders, professional development providers, university programs and school systems. In The Tale of Two Literacy Coaches, Tina emphasizes what successful literacy coaches do to continue to build their capacity. The practices found in this book will help literacy coaches to build trusting relationships, effectively collaborate with peers, district leadership and teachers, and successfully facilitate adult learning.

Tina Edwards is an adjunct professor in the National College of Education at National Louis University. She taught in Chicago Public Schools as a middle school English language arts teacher for 9 years. She is; currently, a high school literacy coach at Sarah Goode STEM High School.
