The Transformations of the Venezuelan Electoral System (1958/2010)

The study of electoral systems has become of fundamental importance for democratic regimes. This is a consequence of the role that elections play as an essential mechanism for attaining power; and more importantly, their legitimacy. In this sense, the Venezuelan case offers an unusual possibility to try to understand the extent to which transformations in the electoral system can affect the way power is distributed in a society.
