THE UKRAINE WAR ECONOMICS AND PROLIFERATION OF SALW IN AFRICA

This paper, "The Ukraine War Economics and Proliferation of SALW in Africa," examines the intricate connections between the conflict in Ukraine, economic factors, and the widespread proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in the African continent. Drawing from an extensive analysis of multiple data sources, the study analyzes the multifaceted dynamics that have led to a surge in SALW availability in Africa. The paper highlights the role of the Ukraine conflict as a global source of SALW, with arms transfers from this conflict zone having a significant impact on Africa. By investigating the economic incentives and channels that facilitate the transfer of these weapons, this research sheds light on how SALW flows through complex networks, exacerbating armed conflicts, crime, and instability across the African region. The study equally underlines the far-reaching implications of SALW proliferation on African nations, emphasizing its contribution to conflict escalation, violence, and the displacement of communities.
