The urban growth of Inhambane City

City growth in terms of the expansion of the built environment is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, linked to population growth and economic development, as mentioned above. The expansion of the built environment is directly related to the population growth of cities. As people migrate to urban areas in search of better opportunities, the demand for housing and urban services increases, resulting in the physical expansion of the built environment. However, this growth also brings challenges and negative impacts, such as the consumption of agricultural and natural land, increased traffic and congestion, the need for additional infrastructure and environmental impacts. It is therefore crucial that the growth of cities is planned and managed in a sustainable way. This requires urban development policies and strategies that promote efficient land use, environmental preservation, social inclusion and improved quality of life for all urban dwellers. Sustainable urban planning can ensure that the growth of cities benefits both current inhabitants and future generations.
