The value of a faithful friend

To begin this reflection on the concept of friendship, I would like to point out the fundamental presupposition that motivates it: friendship is a concept that it is pertinent to think about again, since under the guidance of its meaning not only fundamental aspects of the human condition can be clarified, but also the obstacles that currently impede its realisation in the most successful way can be identified. The concept of friendship refers to fundamental ways of being of human existence, such as the inherent being with others, the need for recognition and accompaniment, the propensity to share life and the best things in life with others; but it also resonates with great human longings and ideals, such as the common good, or the good or successful life. Thus, reflection on the meaning of friendship allows us to understand that the fulfilment of life depends in a fundamental way on the relationship with others, a premise that the present era urges us to remember.
