The Visual Literacy of Grade 10 Life Sciences Learners in Cytology
Details
Can you read what you see and can you see what you read? This question alarmed me as a teacher that skills needed to learn and communicate visually are no longer optional therefore, the illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot think, communicate and learn visually. It is often the skill of closely reading what we experience visually is devalued in school over traditional print-based text. It is important to recognise learning to see and create visual images as an essential skill to the learning process.
