The War Within

Throughout recorded history mankind has dominated over the animal kingdom. Patriarchal societies hold within it an inherent nature to dominate over the weaker female. With this domination comes the notion that women are subservient to men. We see this phenomenon clearly practiced in most major religious teachings throughout the world.Historically, the practice of husbands treating wives subserviently was an accepted practiced and women were taught to faithfully obey their husbands. The consequence of a wife's defiance brought with it a beating by the husband. As societies became more civilized the practice of spousal assault has to some degree fallen out of favor.My research delved into the phenomenon of spouse abuse within the U.S. military but more specifically in the U.S. Army at an overseas installation. Servicemen within the armed forces are not immune from spouse abuse. This research has suggested that combat arms soldiers utilize different tactics when confronted with marital conflicts than that of noncombat arms soldiers.
