The world of prison directors

Prison has been the subject of a great deal of sociological research on a variety of topics. Some researchers analyze the place of the prison in society, often with a highly critical eye (Baker, 2004; Brossat, 2001; Foucault, 1975; Wacquant 1999). Others look at the prison itself, either in a more general way (Combessie, 2009; Faugeron & all, 1996; Vacheret & Lemire, 2007), or from a particular intramural angle of prisoners' lives, such as prison labor (Auvergon & Guillemain, 2008), prison care (Milly, 2001), their sexuality and intimacy (Cardon, 1999; Welzer-Lang & all., 1996), their status as women (Rostaing, 1997), the passage of time (Cohen & Taylor, 1974), and so on.
