The Xinjiang Piano Suites of Shi Fu

This book highlights the piano compositions of Shi Fu, a prominent Chinese ethnomusicologist and composer living in the 20th century. Much of his music reflects the time that he spent researching and collecting minority folk songs in Xinjiang, a province in the northwest region of China. In particular, his Xinjiang Piano Suites are windows through which one can learn more about individual minority folk music and culture. His music can be described as a fusion of ethnic folk idioms with Western romantic music, a colorful and exotic blend of east and west.

Dr. Sally Liew Sansbury, a native of Singapore, received degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from The Ohio State University and Ohio Wesleyan University. She is currently on faculty in the Capital University Conservatory Preparatory Division and also runs a private studio. Her students have been recipients of music awards and scholarships.
