'Then I'd rather have pepper!'
Details
This thesis examines the opportunities, possibilities and limitations that arise from the use of satire in journalism for political discourse. The methodological framework is based on a thorough literature review and analysis, incorporating diverse opinions, views and factual knowledge from various theorists, as well as personal knowledge and experience, and the results of an online survey of journalists, authors and aspiring journalists. The central question is to what extent 'satirical journalism' is replacing traditional 'news journalism'. In addition, the reasons for the increased acceptance of satirical formats as sources of information are examined, as well as the extent to which journalists allow themselves to be influenced by satire in their (political) opinions. The opportunities and dangers of political satire are difficult to define, but this thesis seeks to provide insight into its possibilities and effects.
