Theory of Dangerousness
Details
The Theory of Dangerousness emerged from narratives supplied by people who displayed insight into their schizophrenia. The Theory of Dangerousness has the potential to predict, explain and treat the lack of insight into schizophrenia. As insight development is a key to recovery in schizophrenia, the Theory of Dangerousness makes a valuable contribution to insight development research. The rich study findings provide the conceptual map for understanding the Process of Insight Development. Four Phenomena of Influence impact this recovery process and Four Types of Insight are identified. Of importance, a Trinity of Crisis occurs when a significant event is coupled to a cognitive construction of dangerousness and a relational message; this crisis is a turning point between chaos and recovery. Four Constructions of Dangerousness occur during the course of insight development. The Theory of Dangerousness contains a conceptual treatment method combining psychotherapy and psycho-education in a group format. The Theory of Dangerousness has potential to alleviate practitioner hopelessness when working with people with schizophrenia.
