Thieno[2,3-b]pyridines

Thieno[2,3-b]pyridines constitute a valuable class of heterocyclic compounds because of their diverse biological activity, which includes anticancer, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anti-hypertensive, anti-Alzheimer, osteogenic, CNS disorders treatment, and other miscellaneous activities. Thieno[2,3-b]pyridines have also been reported as inhibitors of many enzymes and multidrug resistance modulators. Therefore, the goal of this review is to provide information about this significant heterocycle, such as synthesis, reactions, and demonstration of compounds with strong biological activity that may serve as lead structures.

Samiha Ahmed El-Sebaey is a Lecturer (Ph.D.) of Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy (Girls), Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. She graduated from the same university with a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2008, an M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry in 2013, and a Ph.D. in the same field in 2016.
