Details

Emily Dickinson s poems seem to talk from the mouth
of many voices; this did not resemble the poetry
and the norms of 19th century literature. She knew
this and thus decided not to publish, but instead
make a world of her own books and volumes of poetry,
in manuscript form.
Previous critical interpretations were engaged in
different particular aspects in Dickinson s entire
oeuvre, thus failing to provide a synthesized
perspective.
The present book analyzes the above mentioned
problems with reference to these critical works
discussing the reasons and historical developments
involved in the editing and thus the mis
interpretation of Emily Dickinson s poems. It
attempts to rediscover these original poems which
got lost for 100 years, in the moment their
publication began.
Nowadays technology provides us
the possibility to have direct access to the
faithful copies of her original poems in digital
form, this is the beginning of the actual study of
her poems.
Thus, the present analysis addresses both graduate
and undergraduate students, and anyone else who
might be interested in 19th century American
literature. - Written by Drd. Bökös Borbála -
