Tissue Culture and Genetic Transformation Studies on Cucumis melo.L
Details
Application of plant tissue and cell culture methods has immense potential in the large-scale propagation and conservation of the unexplored biodiversity of plants all over the world and especially in a huge country like India. This is especially true for plants with medicinal properties. A number of plants have recently been studied with an approach combining traditional medicinal knowledge with new research tools leading to elucidation of a number of phytochemicals of high potency. The present thesis details our efforts in the characterization of two Indian Medicinal plants namely Cucumis melo L. Cucurbitaceae is the largest family of summer vegetable crops, which includes approximately 125 genera and 960 species. Cucurbits represent the major vegetable and fruit crops in the world. Cucurbits family of Cucurbitaceae into 11 tribes under two subfamilies which included Zanonioideae with 60 species under 19 genera and Cucurbitoideae with 740 species under 111 genera Cumis melo plant was studied with respect to aspects such as Callus induction, direct regeneration, Micropropagation, and Genetic transformation.
