Tourism Strategy

Tourism is a very important economic sector globally and locally, and of-fers realistic prospects for sustainable and inclusive economic growth. In the context of the growth of the tourism phenomenon and based on the forecasts made, tourism is and will be the largest export industry in the world. The sector generates currency, promotes regional development, di-rectly supports multiple types of jobs and businesses, and supports many local communities. Tourism is a key economic sector, contributing di-rectly, on average, to 4.2% of GDP, 6.9% of employment and 21.7% of services exports to the OECD area.Policies are still a fundamental component often overlooked for tourism development and tourism studies. While tourism is a growing activity for many tourist destinations, there will be many examples of how un-planned and uncontrolled growth of tourism can bring negative and not at all sustainable results, often accompanied by irreversible environmen-tal damage and of socio-cultural values of society.
