Details

This book concerns the investigation of aspects of information seeking behaviour in a television broadcast context, and the associated implications for design and construction of metadata elements in document representations in future broadcast retrieval systems. The three aspects of information seeking behaviour in focus are information need characteristics, and preferred search and relevance facets. In an explorative empirical fashion, we investigate the nature and characteristics of users television broadcast information needs, and the access points they preferred for searching and relevance assessments. In this way, we expand our knowledge regarding aspects of information seeking behaviour. We identify novel and verify existing access points, and provide a ranking of the access points in relation to their value for retrieval of television broadcasts. Lastly, we investigate how document representation might be constructed e.g., from information in existing external sources. The book identifies the access points that are most appropriate in relation to design and construction of document representations in a future broadcast retrieval system.
