Transformative Learning for a New Worldview

Transformative learning is a process in which we question all the assumptions about the world and ourselves that make up our worldview, visualize alternative assumptions, and then test them in practice. The author describes the process, offering a critique of contemporary assumptions, and suggests alternatives to illustrate the process.

M. G. JACKSON spent two decades as an agricultural scientist and another two decades as an environmental educator. He participated in a pioneering effort to create a locally-relevant, community-based course for rural schools in the mountainous region of North India. He is an active participant in the global debate on sustainability.
