Transition Toolbox
Details
For parents of and students with mild disabilities, not knowing how to secure accommodations and/or services after high school is often a dilemma. The purpose of this guide is to provide educators of, parents of, and students with mild disabilities a resource that provides postsecondary information to help them navigate through transition services to be successful in the academic setting or community. This guide references mandates required under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which nearly all public postsecondary academic settings are subject to follow. This guide explains the difference of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and ADA, services available through a local Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and more. Though this information is available, it often seems hidden from parents, educators, and those with disabilities. This guide provides necessary transition information altogether in one resource.
