TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE FOR TWO COUNTRIES?
Details
Many examples from post authoritarian society demonstrate that dealing with transitional political circumstances is a recent area of human rights practice that creates some complex ethical, legal and practical problems. To address this issue, there have been many truth and reconciliation commissions established in transitional countries. This book will examine the problems of transitional justice in the human rights' universe using the example of the Commission of Truth and Friendship (CTF) of Indonesia and Timor-Leste. The CTF is the first truth commission established between two governments; the former is the ex-colonialist regime and serves as the perpetrators, while the latter is the former colony and was subjected to massive human rights abuses for a long period.
