Translating Legal Language: Agreement and Merger Plan

This book is about the legal language in general, that covers any sort of discourse concerning with legal matters (descriptive and prescriptive). In particular, the author analyses part of the merger agreement between the "Walt Disney Company" and "Pixar", identifying its main characteristics. It follows the translation of the text and the translation strategies used. Furthermore, the author describes some of the main characteristics of written legal English, such as the sentence length, the complexity of its sentence structures, repetitiveness, the high concentration of latinism and archaic or the rare use of lexical items, the use of passive constructions, and so on. It is a useful book for those who want to learn more about the legal language and love the world of translation.
