Translation Strategies for Rendering Literary Works

This work endeavors to shed light on translation strategies for rendering literary works. A number of key issues are addressed in an attempt to provide a comprehensive approach to literary translation and its strategies. The first chapter investigates the unique nature of literature and discusses some prevalent literary theoretical frameworks. In the second chapter, various classifications of translation strategies are provided to establish a clear-cut grasp of the notion. The third chapter casts an in-depth glance at the translation strategies that are most effective in literary translation. The premise of the fourth chapter lies in the consideration of literary translation as a hermeneutic process of aesthetic ornamentation that enriches the literariness of a translation. This work should be particularly useful to translators new to the field of literary translation, as it provides them with a set of effective and established translation strategies to proficiently tackle the task of translating a literary text. It additionally should be helpful to translation majors at university level due to its comprehensive, yet accessible, approach to the field of literary translation.
