Transport Choice & Mobility Behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic era
Details
Worldwide, especially in Ethiopia, the COVID-19 epidemic has impacted economic activity, health and life. Despite the restrictions on travel, state of emergency, and rising vaccinations, it spreads with an unparalleled impact on people's lives and mobility. Ethiopia's transport industry is significantly impacted by Covid-19, and balancing policies to address the social, economic, and health effects has proven to be particularly difficult. The Covid-19 situation is still hazardous primarily in metropolitan areas and populations that rely on public transit. This book examines the impacts of COVID-19 on the transport choice and mobility behavior of transit passengers in Ethiopia from the perspective of protection motivation theory and developing countries. Findings highlighted that the perceived risks of the pandemic and responses significantly reduced the choice & use of public transport services. Passengers were likely to shift to other transport options in urban area. It suggests policy responses required to enhance the choice & use of public transportation and sustain mobility through pandemic-sensitive strategies, safety of passengers, technology and expand transit services.
