Alarming news from scientific researchers: Glaciers in the tropical Andes have shrunk by 30-50% since the 1970s. Official statistics have demonstrated that the glaciers have lost around 1.35 metres in ice thickness every year since the 1970s this is twice the rate of glacial recession in higher altitudes. Further reports have shown that the the glaciers which have as aim to provide fresh water for tens of millions in South America are retreating at their fastest rate in the past 300 years. Researchers have conducted various studies and have found that the miserable, degrading condition of the Andean glaciers is due to the temperature rise of 0.7C from 1950 to 1994. Scientists have stated that climate change with regional temperatures have increased by an average of 0.15°C per decade between 1950 and 1994. Scientific reporters have also mentioned that the glaciers are retreating everywhere in the tropical Andes, but the melting is more pronounced for small glaciers at low altitudes...
