In the PLAN, the Jianghu-class is part of the Type 053-series frigate family. The early variants are small and obsolete, and now primarily used for coastal duty. The latest version is exported as F-22 (Frigate-22). The Type 053 Frigate has been exported to Egypt (2), Bangladesh (2), Thailand (4), and Pakistan has signed agreement to purchase 4 F-22P frigates in May 2006.
