It is composed of teams from European domestic national leagues that are joined in and are a part of the ULEB (a French acronym for "Union of European Leagues of Basketball"), and that also do not have a contract to be in the Euroleague. ULEB Cup was created in 2002 and can be considered as a fusion between the old FIBA Kora Cup and Saporta Cup competitions. The winners of the competition are invited to participate in the next season's Euroleague, the highest tier of European basketball.
