Ultrasound Therapy and Postpartum Coccydinia

Coccydynia, is a painful condition of the terminal portion of the spine can result from direct trauma after childbirth. It can result from varying number of causes, parturition being one of them. Although strains and sprains of the ligaments attached to the coccyx have been thought to be the usual cause for coccydynia occurring after childbirth, an intra partum coccygeal fracture dislocation can result in the same. Many pregnant women complaint from discomfort on early as the first trimester. It has been suggested that the hormonal changes of pregnancy together with the ligaments traction on the coccyx cause strain and resultant pain. The passage of the featus through the birth canal can cause acute trauma to the coccyx region, this can be farther aggravation by forceps delivery Ultrasound is one of the most frequently modalities used by physiotherapist for the treatment of pain .Ultrasound is one of several rehabilitation interventions suggested for the management of pain Ultrasound has been found as a useful therapeutic modality for the relief of muscular and tendinuous spasm.
