Umananda Devaloi is a Shiva Temple is located at the Peacock island in middle of river Brahmaputra just opposite the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup or the Kachari Ghat in Guwahati. It was built by the Ahom King Gadadhar Singha (1681-1696) who was a devout Shaivaite. Shiva, is a major Hindu deity, and one aspect of Trimurti. In the Shaiva tradition of Hinduism, Shiva is seen as the Supreme God. In the Smarta tradition, he is regarded as one of the five primary forms of God. Followers of Hinduism who focus their worship upon Shiva are called Shaivites or Shaivas (Sanskrit aiva). Shaivism, along with Vai ava traditions that focus on Vishnu and kta traditions that focus on the goddess Shakti are three of the most influential denominations in Hinduism.
