Understanding Empowerment: The Capability Approach

The book is an excellent piece of research on the theme of empowerment. Empowerment is a much debated concept in contemporary social science. however, not many are able to define what is empowerment is all about. The books illustrates empowerment from Indian perspective and looks at the major development issues and how they are interconnected with each other. One of the problems with Indian policy practitioners has been that they try to define empowerment in their own terms without really allowing people to define the idea on their own terms. The present research is a modest attempt to do this exercise.
