Unlocking Growth in SSA with Development Inspiration from the South

This book explores the debate on the Northern & Southern development visions. The preliminary chapter analyzes the Northern philosophy of development as dictated to the economies of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) & the entire South, highlighting the counterproductive reality of such a development dictum. The maiden chapter thus explores why the Northern view has proven perilous for the development of SSA economies, noting that context is vital in development thinking. Chapter Two examines a more fundamental & direct question - why development is impeded in SSA states. It discusses a litany of arguments why development has stifled in SSA states, underscoring that SSA states are not the lone victims of the Northern development dictum. The third chapter offers a critical appraisal of the "Africa rising" discourse, underlining that although some SSA economies are "rising", that must not however detract from the more enduring and stark development challenges facing SSA states. Chapter four highlights the relevance of the African Developmental State to development. The concluding chapter makes the case for development inspiration from the South to catalyze social & economic development in SSA.
