Update on Osteoporosis Management

Osteoporosis Update provides reliable information to support researcher and other health professionals. Advancement in bone formation and resorption study has revealed some newer targets for the cause and therapy of osteoporosis. Recent research developed of cause as obesity, toxic metal and discovered genes. DXA is the gold standard until now for diagnosis and the best site that is used is femoral neck. OST is a simple noninvasive diagnostic tool for detecting osteoporosis .The use OST in postmenopausal Egyptian women is effective. Recent developments in osteoporosis treatment have shown that: Vitamin D supplementation is not the core treatment in the prevention of osteoporosis, but a supportive one; Combination drug therapy may be the best treatment for osteoporosis; Laser and Ultrasound therapy accelerates the bone matrix; Newer Denosumab (Prolia) improves bone density as approved in Egypt. Many of the treatments have side effects as bisphosphonates when taken for 5 years or longer and suspended strontium ranelate.
