Urban markets in Russian everyday life
Details
This monograph describes urban markets and street trading (or the so-called 'street economy') and their specific role in the everyday life of Russians in transition. It presents extensive fieldwork collected by the author in the markets of St Petersburg and the Leningrad region. The study captures the various micro-changes that occurred in the small trading business from the early 1990s to the mid-2000s. The book details not only the professional strategies and lives of traders, but also how transformation processes took place at the grassroots level. The monograph is intended for students, teachers and researchers working at the interface of economic anthropology, sociology and social history, for representatives of interested business structures and for all those interested in the processes of post-Soviet transformation.
