The search for antimicrobials of plant origin has been mainly stimulated by the fact that some of the major antibacterial agents have developed resistance. Essential oils derived from aromatic medicinal plants have been reported to exhibit exceptionally good antimicrobial effects against bacteria, yeasts, filamentous fungi, and viruses.
