Details

This Book explores the dynamic competitive environment between China and the United States with focus on the conflict over South China Sea. Relations of both major states are complex as they do not intend to go for a direct physical conflict or confrontation but the strategic situation in the Pacific Ocean creates a dynamic environment where both states' interests overlap each other. The threat perception of both states' intention have made the situation more complex as the US strategies in the region are perceived as encirclement by the Peoples Republic of China while the Chinese strategies in East Asia particularly in the South China Sea are perceived as a threat to the US hegemonic position where the US considers its power in decline. Considering this, the United State is strengthening military and diplomatic alliance with East Asian States and refocusing on the Asia Pacific region by deploying more troops and expanding the bases. All strategies and the insecurities of disputant states of the South China Sea have created an environment where it turns into a conflict with negative implications not only for the Asia Pacific region but also for the international system.
