Use of alternative medicine in Biskra for the treatment of COVID-19

This work focused on the use of alternative medicine in the treatment of COVID-19 in the city of Biskra, an online questionnaire was designed dealing with the different aspects of this type of medicine. The answers obtained showed a tendency of the sick people to use medicinal plants for the treatment against this pandemic by using different plant species, in particular thyme and ginger. The main reasons for the use of plants by the population were mainly their efficacy, lack of side effects and being used to consuming them and to a lesser degree their abundance and low cost. From the ethnobotanical and pharmacological point of view, the foliage is the most used part while the infusion is the most practiced galenic form. This study allowed us to identify the medicinal plants used by the local population and to appreciate and know the traditional practices used in the prevention and control of COVID-19 infection.
