Use of public urban space in São Luís

The city of São Luís, capital of the state of Maranhão, has a rich cultural history and architectural heritage that is known and celebrated around the world. It was designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1997. This study examines the context of the urban landscape and public spaces for culture, sports, and family life in the current formation of contemporary society in the urban area of São Luís. and family life in the current formation of contemporary society in the urban area of São Luís. [...] A concept that defines the study and has international repercussions in urban studies is that of requalification. Urban requalification is a conceptual theme and source of various theoretical works and strategic plans for the development of modern societies in terms of construction and land use, particularly in urbanised areas, with a reduction in green spaces and places for socialising in the contemporary world of cities, especially in Brazil.
