They are often credited with much of the increase in life expectancy over the past hundred years and, along with serotherapy, represent one of the foundations of the medical revolution.The discovery of vaccines initiated one of the most effective public health policy interventions, both at the individual and collective levels, marked by the eradication of smallpox, almost 100 years after the discovery of the vaccine.After more than a century of research, vaccines are increasingly useful and developed countries are not achieving sufficient vaccination coverage of their populations.
