Before merger with the corporation of Kochi, Vaduthala was a municipality under the Government of Kerala. A zonal office of the Corporation of Cochin operates here. Several educational institutions like Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Don Bosco School, Archbishop Attipety School operate here. Vaduthala is blessed with a line of backwaters, kissing its side, all along its length. This beautiful stretch is one of the most peaceful places in Cochin city and also a source of livelihood for a number of fishermen living here. Sadly, there are plans to fill up a huge area of these backwaters for the construction of new roads and also for revenue generation for the Corporation of Cochin.
