Vaishnavi began her career as a child actor in the 1991 film Dharma Dorai. She also appeared in the serials Anni, Muhurtham, and Malargal, the programme Kondattam for Sun TV. On 17 April 2006, Vaishnavi hanged herself in her home after a fight with actor Dev Anand, her married co-star in the Tamil serial Manaivi, with whom she was having a relationship. On 19 April 2006, Anand was arrested in connection with Vaishnavi''s death.
