It has a population of approximately 70 people. Other locations on the island include Blubber Bay.Named after the Van Anda Copper & Gold Mining Company, which company owned 840 acres on the northeast side of the island, including the "Copper Queen" claim here; president Edward Blewitt, Seattle capitalist and miner who named both his son and his mining company after his friend Carl Van Anda, a well-known New York City journalist in the 1870's.
