They recorded a single entitled, "The Birdland", a novelty dance record, in 1956, which gained some interest leading to a tour with drummer Vi Burnsides. The Starlighters cut three singles for End in 1959. Marriage would eventually cause the group to disband in the mid-1950s. Van, sang with a group called the Marylanders. In 1961 McCoy met Kendra Spottswood to whom he became engaged. They were inseperable for the next five years. They sang and recorded together.
