Vernacular Architecture

Ethiopia is the land lies in the horn of Africa, with indigenous ethnic culture groups adapted well established practice of housing and allied activities. SNNPR is one of the nine regions with more than 56 ethnic groups and Gamo is one among this ethnic groups. The available literature mostly highlights the importance of northern Ethiopian civilization with the Axum, Lalibela and Gondar kingdom and the Eastern Ethiopia due to the importance of commercialization like Harar. The document pertain to Southern Ethiopias culture is very limited. After finishing my graduation in Architecture 2008, a whole series of inspiration evolve within me to bring out the vernacular and traditional practices of my Gamo region. This book will be a real eye-opener for the young researches, readers and other interested groups particular vernacular architecture.
