VIOSTEROL AND PERIODONTITIS ALONG WITH HYPERTENSION AND PERIODONTITIS

Vitamin D is crucial for a wide variety of organ systems; nevertheless, evidence has demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency may place subjects at risk for not only low mineral bone density /osteoporosis and osteopenia but also infectious and chronic inflammatory diseases Vitamin D also has anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines through its effect on bone and mineral metabolism, innate immunity and several VDR gene polymorphisms, vitamin D has been reported to be associated with periodontal disease.Hypertension is the most prevalent cardiovascular disease affecting over 30% of the adult population globally. Untreated or uncontrolled hypertension is a fore-runner for morbid cardiovascular fatalities like atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction. It may also lead to target organ damage such as left ventricular hypertrophy and disruption of renal functions40. Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the supporting structures of the teeth, caused by a plethora of gram-negative anaerobes6. The progressive attachment and bone loss eventually leads to loss of the tooth when untreated.
