The constituency was established for the 1966 elections.Constituencies of Kenya are used to select members of the Kenyan parliament. There are 210 constituencies in Kenya. Kenya has a single-winner voting system, meaning each constituency elects only one MP. Constituencies are further divided into wards, used to select councillors for local authorities of Kenya. Both parliamentary and civic representatives are elected during general elections taking place every five years. The last general elections were held in 2007 and caused a huge riot.
