The station was opened on May 16, 1916 when the tramway was extended to Frognerseteren. The station was originally called Lia.The Holmenkoll Line (Norwegian: Holmenkollbanen) is a light rail line on the Oslo Metro network which runs from Majorstuen and up to Frognerseteren in Oslo, Norway. It is the oldest line on the network, the line which runs highest up and the line with fewest passengers. Even though it is part of the subway network, the line does not run through any tunnels. The Holmenkoll Line is as of 2005 served by Line 1, which goes from Helsfyr in the east.
