The rise of populism and aggressive and defensive forms of politics would seem to hint at a crisis of democracy. With a view to the present and the future, the authors collected here discuss a number of associated, unresolved questions, such as: What constitutes a people? To what extent do modern constitutions need to appeal to a people? What is the will of the people and how is it expressed in constitutional democracies?
