Direct measurements of room air velocity distribution can provide quantitative information for scientists, engineers, and building managers to better understand the ventilation operating conditions and the dynamics of the airborne pollutant dispersion in a room airspace. Traditional measurement methods, e.g. thermal anemometers, are point wise, intrusive, and difficult to use for obtaining whole flow field information. PIV techniques can make a measurement over global domains, but are only applicable to the cases of a nearly two dimensional flow field within a narrow laser-illuminated plane. This book presents a unique measurement method, Volumetric Particle Streak-Tracking Velocimetry (VPSTV), to measure flow velocities in a whole large 3-dimensional flow volume illuminated using ordinary light sources. Airflows in a ventilate droom are characterized using both VPSTV and CFD. Professionals in indoor environmental engineering and other fields concerned with fluid flow measurement and modeling will find VPSTV an effective tool.
