It has a transmission rate of 1065 MW, which makes it the world''s largest HVDC-back-to-back facility. It has 3 bipolar systems each operating with a voltage of 85 kV. In opposite to most other HVDC plants, its static inverters do not allow bidirectional energy to transfer, but only from Russia to the power grid of Finland. It offers the only possibility of Russia to export electricity to the Nordic countries (NORDEL system).
